During September 2009 ProjectZero launced its goZERO campain allowing all citizens, companies and schools to participate in energy saving initiatives. The Mayor of Sonderborg decided to turn off the street light during week 40 to show the city´s commitment. Danish Television (TV2) broadcasted Sonderborg initiatives during the month and Sonderborg participated in a country vise competition to save most carbon.
Great results were achieved. Citizens saved up to 89% of their traditional power consumption. Companies up to 40% and kids/classes created songs and low carbon cooking books. Sonderborg as such achieved the highest carbon reductions among the participating cities.
